Pilgrimage Experience

Hey everyone,

I am so so glad that I decided to go on this trip because it taught me a lot about my nation's past and what some people had to endure during a time in history. In high school you learn broad facts about civil rights but this trip really helped me learn so much more than I already knew. I have so many memories from this trip that I wouldn't change for the world. You get to travel to so many cities and so many states and you get see how beautiful the south is. I feel everyone who was on the trip each got something different out of the trip but I believe that to be part of the beauty of this trip that each person was touched differently in their own way. The most enriching experience for me was the trip to Selma Alabama. Selma is very different from  my hometown and made me realize how privileged I really am. We got to walk over the Edmund Pettius bridge which was an important march during that time because it was the route people marched just to have the freedom to vote. A lot of people in today's society don't realize how lucky they have it being born with what seems like inherent rights but wasn't always inherent to all people. I hope students will continue to have an opportunity to go on this pilgrimage and be able to experience what I have had the pleasure of seeing and learning about this nation's great history. The end.
