What an amazing day...

Day 3 started out beautifully with a visit to the Ebenezer Baptist Church. The service was beautiful and the people were so very friendly. The Reverend gave a moving sermon. It was a great experience. I would like to go again soon!

After church we explored the King Center and looked at different artifacts, quotes, and displays about the Civil Rights Movement. It was quite impressive. Then we went to look at birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr. It was a great experience. Learning about the upbringing and early life of Martin Luther King Jr. really helps you understand how he became such a dynamic leader.

We then boarded the bus, grabbed lunch, and travelled on to Birmingham, Alabama. Our first stop was at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. It was an outstanding experience. It was really quite surreal. It is nearly impossible to comprehend that one group of people could do such horrible things to another group of people. It was most definitely a somber time. Very educational and moving.

Then we went to Kelly Ingram Park and looked at the famous site. It made you imagine the time of the Children’s March when the police brought out the dogs and used water cannons. Across the street from the park was the 16th Street Baptist Church. It also made you recall the history, which including the bombing deaths of four young girls. The whole experience seemed unbelievable.

We then travelled to Golden Corral for a nice big meal. It was delicious (thanks again Jodi!). Then it was back to the hotel for some shut eye. Another wonderful day is over. Hopefully tomorrow is just as great.
