Incredible Experiences; Incredible Students

Ok - it's official -- UW-Eau Claire students are simply INCREDIBLE. I was so impressed by their comments and perspectives when we met today with two history professors at the U of Alabama Birmingham. They provided thoughtful perspectives and insights on the Civil Rights Movement and what they had seen and understood. It was fun watching them interact with the UAB students and faculty. I am learning something every day on this trip. The Rosa Parks story was very interesting -- there is so much more to the back story about her quiet act of civil disobedience. What struck me from this morning and then this afternoon is that segregation was the law here in the South - it just wasn't something people practiced - they actually had laws governing where Blacks could sit, eat, watch movies, etc. I was moved in particular by MLK's Letter from a Birmingham Jail, which captures so eloquently why they did what they did. Tonight's dinner was such a treat -- we had lots of laughs, sang "Happy Birthday" and got to know each other better. Thanks for letting us be a part of this incredible experience.

I meant to post this picture earlier -- you could say Jodi sees the world through rose colored glasses - but really 3-D glasses at the Coke museum.
