A day in beautiful New Orleans

What a wonderful day in the beautiful city of New Orleans! We started out with a bus tour of the city. We got to look at some civil rights monuments and other cool New Orleans history. It was great to see the school that Ruby Bridges integrated as well as the historic French Quarter. The most powerful sights on the trip dealt with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Some places are still completely devastated, while others have been beautifully restored. It is hard to believe that the catastrophe is already four years in the past.

After the bus tour we headed to Tulane University to see La Amistad Research Center. It was a very remarkable story, and there were many interesting artifacts from slavery times up through the Civil Rights Movement.

We then took a streetcar over to the French Quarter. My group spent a great deal of time exploring the French Market. We also grabbed some delicious authentic cuisine. It was a great day in a beautiful city.
