Drawn to a Close

Just as I could not believe the trip was about ready to take off, I now can't believe it has all come to an end. It is nice to be back home, but I miss traveling with everyone and being amazed each and every day by something new we learned or encountered. Everyday on this trip, we were faced with an abundance of knowledge regarding America's past, and the connection to us today. All of us who participated on this trip will all have a better understanding of multicultural issues versus only taking a class such as "African American History." I have been amazed by the attitudes of personal accounts we have heard such as Minniejean Brown Trickey, John Lewis, Joann Blann, and our tour guide throughout Kelly Ingram Park. They have forgiven the people and events of the past; I admire their strength to do that!! Listening to any of these amazing people, we can all get inspiration to continue to improve life for everyone here. As we moved on to New Orleans, I think we were all excited to see the city and see our service learning project. It was a neat experience to have cars pull over to thank us for cleaning up their city, and be greeted by everyone passing by! The next day in New Orleans we visited the historic collection; I liked this because I have always been interested in the history of New Orleans! The rest of the day, I visited the Louis Armstrong Park, the first cemetary, explored the French market, ate alligator, and took a horse carriage ride around town; needless to say--it was a very fun time! As the trip was starting to wind down, we visited Little Rock Central High-hard to believe that this beautiful school had such horrible events happening not too long ago. Our final stop was a perfect conclusion, sad and hopeful at the same time, at the Lorraine Motel where Dr. King was assassinated. We really have come a long way thanks to Dr.King and the numerous others such as Joann Blann and Minniejean Brown who had hope in a better future! But we all need to continue this hope! Thanks to all who made this trip possible, it is an unforgettable experience!!!
And I included a picture of our bus to thank Randy for getting us everywhere safely and putting up with us :)
